Shudra The Rising: A Film on Caste Oppression in Ancient India

Shudra The Rising is a 2012 Indian Hindi-language film that depicts the plight of the Shudras, the lowest caste in the Hindu Varna system, who were subjected to slavery and brutality by the upper castes. The film is directed by Sanjiv Jaiswal and dedicated to Dr B. R. Ambedkar, a social reformer and the chief architect of the Indian Constitution.

The film is set in the time of the Indus Valley civilization and narrates the arrival of the Aryans from west Asia, who take over the local tribes and impose a rigid caste system on them. The film shows various rules imposed on the Shudras such as walking with a bell around their ankles and a long leaf behind their back, and a pot hanging around their neck. The film also portrays the resistance and rebellion of some Shudras against their oppressors.

The film was released on 19 October 2012 and received positive reviews from critics and audiences. The film was praised for its bold and realistic depiction of caste discrimination and violence, and its message of social justice and equality. The film also faced some controversy and opposition from some Hindutva groups, who claimed that the film would foment rivalry between castes and that its depiction of events was anachronistic.
