In order to inform and educate the public about the musical instruments and methods, we started a series of exhibitions, which we call Arif-sag-erdal-erzincan-baglama-metodu-indir (Arif-sag-erdal-erzincan-baglama-metodu-indir: EIA - Environment India project) (The EIA team is). On the walls of the hall, there are the initial images of all the instruments we use or want to use as a method. This method can easily be adapted to a traditional instrument. We always use the traditional instruments that exist in our area. Instruments from Turkey and from the Arabic world are very well known. We are also integrating the traditional Turkish musical instruments into the exhibition. Because of the insufficient number of the people who understand and know these traditional instruments, we chose to bring back the old times, so that we can use these instruments for themselves or to teach them to other people, hoping that these people will continue and will make use of them.
In the late 1980s, the first balama variant was born, also called the Arif-baglama-erzincan (from the name of the player, Erdal Erzincan). This variant of balama has a tapered body with two strings tuned to bozuk dzeni tuning (string 6 is the fifth string, string 7 is the fourth string, string 8 is the third string and string 1 is the second string, see FIGURE 9). This variant is considered the first being able to produce sounds from balamas that are now already standard in the Turkish balam community. We will also explain the difference between the balamalar, which were built according to Western playing techniques and the modern balamalar, which were built according to the old Turkish traditional.
