In early days of shipbuilding, pine planking, tiles, or anything else that was available were used as a covering for the pressure vessel. This type of pressure vessel is referred to as an "approximate pressure vessel" and is still used in some parts of the world. Rather than decreasing the internal pressure by increasing its size, this type of vessel is used to reduce the internal flammable or explosive pressure.
Other types of pressure vessels are of a much higher pressure. Vessels used for a high pressure or high-temperature application are referred to as a steam turbine, boiler, thermal reactor, solar steam generator, heat engine, rocket motor or steam rocket, and the list goes on.
A nuclear pressure vessel can withstand the temperatures and pressures arising from radioactive materials undergoing fission. Nuclear Pressure Vessels are typically made by using the same basic materials and technology used to make liquid-metal cooled pressure vessels. They are a top-entry construction, using a ladder of large diameter dome domes and fewer and smaller domes on top. They are used in nuclear reactors.
Some vessels can be made as one piece, (known as an integral or monobloc) and others use multiple pieces (known as composite), using welds or rivets to make connections between component parts, but both types are built using the same basic processes. The vessel's shell (outer covering) is formed using a mould and then the component sections are filled with welded or riveted together like bricks. There are four basic types of pressure vessels: d2c66b5586
